Kids have unique perspectives on what does and doesn’t work about a city. To gather these ideas, the City of Edmonton had launched a series of workshops in schools to talk to kids about how their city works. One of these exercises had kids imagining super heroes with the power to make their city better. To show kids across the city that city building is a super power and to thank them for their participation, we created a custom written and illustrated comic book based on their superhero designs. We took their illustrations and character descriptions (included in the final product), their favourite parts of the city, and their big ideas for the future, and let those ideas inspire a comic book (distributed and read in schools) about how everyone who builds our city is a superhero.
